May 20, 2007 Meeting Minutes
Aquila Art Glass hosted the ORBS May meeting. Thanks to Aquila for sharing their
space with us.
Karen Moyer called the meeting to order.
ORBS Logo
The ORBS logo was selected by the membership at our April meeting. It will be
added to the ORBS web site, and also on ORBS membership cards, and other
materials.
September Meeting
Our next meeting, on September 23rd will be a picnic and ‘chair sale’. This will
be held at Laurelhurst Park in NE Portland. Information will be posted on the
ORBS web site with links to the park, maps and rain date if necessary. Please
visit the web site for more information.
The Laurelhurst Neighborhood association may assist in helping to get the
neighborhood out for the chair sale. ORBS will provide pizza and pop, and
members will be asked to bring desserts and salads. This is intended to be a
family event, so please feel free to bring your families, it’s not just for
members.
ORBS Table at the Gathering Bead Bazaar
There are now eight who have signed up to participate in the gathering bead
bazaar. There is a maximum 10, please notify Karen by May 31st if you would like
to attend. Karen will send packets of information to those who have contacted
her with detailed information. The cost is $25.00 to participate, including
shipping. If you have signed up, you can give your check to Kathy today. If you
ship the beads yourself, or bring them with you to the Gathering, there may be a
modified participation cost. This will be included in the information packet.
Museum of Contemporary Craft
The museum is working to on sponsoring a guild circle program. This will support
interdisciplinary projects with education and demonstration with outreach. The
museum is moving to a new space at 724 NW Davis. They will hold a grand opening
7/22. They will include a display case that rotates monthly, and are currently
looking for people to do demonstrations. They are doing a call for artists for
interactive jewelry exhibit where artists can show the public how they make
jewelry. A link will be available on the ORBS web site with more information.
The fee is $15.00 to participate. The exhibit will be named “Touching warms the
Art”.
October Meeting
Gwen has confirmed for speaking at the October meeting, to be held at Bullseye.
She will offer a seminar on galleries, how they think, what they look for, and
other topics such as creating an artists statement. The overall topic is
personal development for glass artists. October 21st is reserved at Bullseye for
this meeting/seminar. Her seminars can range from an hour to six.
Please e-mail Karen (contact information is on the ORBS web site) with your
input as to how long you think the seminar should be. We will have a link to her
information on the ORBS web site as well.
Guest Speaker- Leslie Thiel
Leslie demonstrated how to make her long curved beads to the group, a very
entertaining and informative demo. Thanks, Leslie!
The meeting ended with a bead exchange, good conversation, and snacks- a great
way to spend an afternoon.
