January 20, 2008 General Meeting Minutes

Aquila Art Glass hosted the ORBS March meeting. Thanks to Aquila for sharing their space with us.

Guest Speaker
Mitchell from Olympic Color Rods is here to talk about the latest and greatest in colors and news.

February Meeting
For our February meeting, we will have Ruth Greening. Ruth is a precious metal clay (PMC) artist. She will also teach a class at Aquila Art Glass. Time will be from
10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Students will work with PMC to form a pendant that is enhanced with a glass cabochon and the sparkle of a CZ stone. She will teach how to use different methods to set glass, make bails, and bead caps for glass beads.

Cost per student is $160.00 for ORBS members, and $175.00 for non-members. That includes supplies. There will be 12 spots open. After February 2nd, we will open the class to non-ORBS members.

See the ORBS site for information on where to send payment to secure your spot.

April Meeting and Retreat
There will be no meeting in April. We’ll have a northwest bead retreat to be held April 11- 13th. There will be classes, demonstrations and much more. If you have suggestions for topics, send them to Karen soon via e-mail.

Bead Challenge
We want to introduce a bead challenge for ORBS at our meetings. Bring a bead that relates to the theme, and we’ll display them anonymously. We’ll take a group picture and do a vote on the favorite bead. Winner will get a prize.

The theme for February is “Anti-Valentines Day” bead. Join in the fun!

Bullseye Tours by Aquila
Aquila has arranged with Bullseye to do tours of 8 people at their facilities. They are scheduling tours. You can request to be on their e-mail list for information about this and other events.

Guest Speaker
Olympic Color Rods

Mitchell from Olympic Color rods is our guest speaker. Olympic Color Rods started as glass blowing supplier, and as the lampworking market has exploded, they are offering lampworking cane. They carry Reichenback, Uroboros, Zimmerman. Have a great web site.

Mitchell shared information about new colors they have available, and offered rods for members to try out. He has many rods for sale today as well. Yummy!
