Guest Speaker – Jim Smircich
Jim is an internationally know bead maker, teacher and film maker. To quote Jim
Kervin: “Jim has done what few others can: combine his scientific training and
engineering background with the eyes and heart of an artist, and surrounded it
with his passion for hot glass. Jim has a way of explaining the 'how' and 'why'
things happen in a way we all can understand. His books are considered 'bibles'
by some and encyclopedias by others.
Jim Smircich gave a lecture about the history of bead making in the US, the
inception of the ISGB and related some of his experiences teaching abroad. The
lecture was followed by a demonstration and a Q & A session.
Jim is also offering a unique opportunity for one on one sessions with him in
your studio. If there are at least 3-4 people in the general vicinity, he will
arrange to work with you one on one. There is also a studio in Eugene that is
offering space for these sessions with Jim. He has all the information you need
on his web site at www.smircich.com
