I have been making lampwork
beads since the beginning of 2006. I discovered lamp working
through my wife Susan, who makes jewelry using among other
things, silver and glass.
I bought a beginners lampwork book by Cindy Jenkins and
proceeded to learn the basics. It didn't take long to get
thoroughly hooked.
I have been a general contractor building custom homes for many
many years. Making glass beads is a delightful change. It is
very rewarding to watch the reaction of fusing a variety of
glasses together then add a little metal to the equation to
create a completely new dimension of the piece.
I recently had the good fortune to take a class with Michael
Barley. He has so many unique and useful techniques and he is so
easy to learn from. I especially like his philosophy when it
comes to mixing unknown Combinations of materials; "Just try it"
